Abstrakt

The herbage of the family Celastraceae is widely spread mainly in subtropical areas all over the world. The compounds contained in these plants (about 430 species) have been as yet insufficiently explored. Many of them were traditional ancient Indian drugs and only lately were studied by modern chemical methods. These compounds are often interesting from the point of view of chemistry and pharmacology. A sbort survey of their chemical structure is given and their biological effects are discussed.
