Abstrakt

Tramadol is a centrally-acting analgesic used worldwide. In 2013, researchers reported that Tramadol was found in relatively high concentrations in the roots and bark of the African pin cushion tree (Nauclea latifolia). In 2014, however, such a natural origin of this substance was questioned and its presence in the plant was explained by a widespread administration of Tramadol to cattle by farmers in the region. Although this is a prevailing opinion, a final resolution is not yet available.
