Degradation of Selected Types of Cyclic Siloxanes as Potential Sources of Environmental Pollution
AbstraktThe current studies show that some types of siloxanes have a significant impact on environment. They are penetrating into the environment mainly as components of various preparations. The review is focused on the identification and possible degradation of selected cyclosiloxane types octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane (D4) and decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5). In GC-MS of hexamethylcyclo¬trisiloxane (D3) and hexamethyldisiloxane (L2) degradation products have been identified. The efficiency of degradation of D4 and D5 was 99.8 % and 99.5 %, respectively. The results suggest biodegradation of cyclic siloxanes using the Fenton reaction under aerobic or anaerobic conditions in the environment.
